Mission Statement
The mission of Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers is to reach out and confidentially serve members of the Minnesota legal community experiencing conditions that impact the quality of their personal or professional lives and to support their recovery, improve their lives, and further the delivery of justice.
How to Support LCL’s Mission
Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We rely on the generous contributions of our members, benevolent law firms and other legal organizations, bar associations, and our kind friends. LCL meets all Standards of the Charities Review Council.
Donations will be placed in the general fund to support all the services of LCL. LCL also has two projects. To make your gift to the Founder’s Fund, which helps pay for treatment-related expenses for lawyers who cannot afford them, or to the David Brink Memorial Fund, please designate your donation for this purpose.
Donors’ Generosity on Display in LCL’s Work
“I don’t have a problem with alcohol” is often the response when we ask people if they know about Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers (LCL). Yes, LCL provides free, confidential help to lawyers, judges, law students, and their families who are affected by alcohol and/or chemical use. LCL also helps with compulsive behaviors; depression, anxiety, and other mental illnesses; stress; or any problem which negatively affects the quality of one’s life at work or at home. LCL offers up to four free counseling sessions statewide as well as appropriate referrals and follow-up. Several support groups are offered regularly and are available at the LCL office or remotely.
LCL provides CLE and other educational programs on stress, mental health, substance use, addiction, ethics related to impairment, and other issues. We travel statewide to meet members of our profession and to provide education, support, and assistance. Ultimately, our work is public service for lawyers, their clients, and the profession. Your donation to LCL will support these critical services and allow us to respond to immediate needs as well as trends in the profession. Each year, LCL helps hundreds of people and the numbers keep increasing. Some called us directly, and others were referred by concerned friends, colleagues, and family members. We measure success one lawyer, judge, law student, or family member at a time. One lawyer told us “you saved my life by being there when I had given up hope. The confidential, caring support I received during my crisis made a difference.”
The growth in the number of people helped by LCL is gratifying, but the reality is that we reach only a fraction of those who need help. News reports of suicides in our community and of misconduct borne of mental illness and addiction show that the need LCL addresses continues.
Please help if you can, and know that your contribution will make a difference for many. See www.mnlcl.org for more information or call us at 651-646-5590 or 866-525-6466. There is help, and there is hope.
